Note:Biodegradable stakes are also available to secure the erosion control matting for soil erosion to the hillside. When installing this coir geotextile for erosion control, choose between wooden stakes or biodegradable stakes made from recycled plastics and polymers. These biodegradable landscape stakes last on average 24-36 months in the field before naturally decomposing.

Coconut coir mat 400 provides semi-permanent soil stabilization. This bank stabilization matting is also known as coir mat 40. It is fully biodegradable and constructed from coconut coir fiber. With this coir fabric, erosion control is efficient and effective on hills and slopes prone to erosion. Additionally, there is no need for a disposal plan, as the all-natural fibers break down over time, promoting vegetation growth and enriching the soil. Coconut coir mat 400 is manufactured with a standard weight of 400 g/m² and the coir fabric features an open weave pattern that leaves 65% open for promoting vegetation growth. Coconut coir mat 40 is recommended for use on slopes of less than 1:1.

Installing coconut coir mat 400 is a simple process, with the added benefit of not needing to be removed at the completion of the erosion control matting project. When these instructions are followed for this coir fabric, erosion control coir matting installation is easy and quick.

1) Grade the installation area for uniformity. For effective erosion control, the coir fabric needs to be in full contact with the soil.

2) Dig a trench at both the top and bottom of the installation area.

3) Unfurl the coconut coir mat roll and lay it over the graded area. Lay them in the direction of the water flow, overlapping at least 6 to 8" at the edges of the rolls.

4) Secure the coir mat 40 with staples or stakes. Stake installers are a helpful time-saver for the installation crew.

5) Back fill the trenches at the top and bottom.

Use coir mat 400 for erosion control, also known as coir mat 40, on sloping banks and hillsides as a semi-permanent means of environmentally friendly erosion control. Coir fabric for soil erosion is often used in wetland restoration projects, for slope and shoreline stabilization, and to promote vegetation in areas where the soil has been disturbed. Coconut coir mat's biodegradable mattress is constructed from coir fiber gathered in the coconut harvesting process. The coir fabric's netting is also biodegradable and made from coir fibers. Together, this environmentally friendly BMP enriches the soil while controlling erosion.

It is an effective and natural erosion control measure that also facilitates quick vegetation growth by allowing room for seedlings to grow. At the same time, it provides the tender seedlings some support and shelter from the elements. With 65% open weave, coconut coir mat 400 can be seeded either before installation or after with successful results. It has a field-life of approximately 2-3 years and will enrich the soil as it composts. Since it can be left in the field, there are no material removal costs that apply.
