Coir mat 700, also called coir mat 70, is long-lasting coir fiber matting designed for erosion control use in municipal projects with medium-grade slopes. This coir erosion matting is a proven tool in protecting slopes against wind and water erosion. Manufactured from coconut fiber, coir fiber matting is 100% biodegradable and offers an affordable Green Building alternative for municipal projects, as well as landscaping. Coir mat 700 will satisfy federal clean water regulations when applied properly. We also offer other erosion mat products for different slopes and site conditions.
Coir fiber matting is manufactured with a standard weight of 700 g/m², providing an erosion control solution that will last for years. Coir 700 matting, also referred to as coir mat 70, is a semi-permanent soil stabilization measure, providing 4-6 years of erosion control and plant protection. Even better, there is no need for a disposal plan with coir 700 matting, as it fully composts over its field-use-life. Because of the 50% open weave, it can be seeded to encourage plant growth, which further helps with water filtration and erosion control. It can also accommodate plugs, which provides faster vegetation growth results.
It can be used effectively for erosion control on shallow to moderate hillsides or slopes, of up to 2:1. With a 50% open weave, coconut coir 700 matting is adaptable to seeding and for use with plugs. Coir 700 matting is a biodegradable semi-permanent erosion control measure, with no disposal costs needing to be incurred. It is preferred for use on moderate slopes up to 2:1 or on jobsites with more demanding environmental conditions.
For projects with a shallow slope (of up to 1:1) coir mat 400 is often recommended. However, for jobsites with a slope greater than 2:1 or that is subject to extreme site conditions, coir mat 900 might be the coir erosion matting needed for the project.
