Woven Geotextiles

As the strongest filter fabric, woven geotextiles are created by weaving polypropylene strands together. They are generally used for stabilization and separation, but the fabrics are still permeable with filtration qualities.


Woven geotextiles are particularly useful during Streetscaping development. They can be used as asphalt overlay or road underlayment during road construction. During the landscaping segment of the project, the fabric offers permanent soil stabilization and sediment control to create a smooth, clean design.


Woven geotextile fabrics are used to construct several filtration products including dewatering tubes and silt fence.

Woven Monofilament Fabric

Woven monofilament fabric is a specific type of woven geotextile. Extruded, round strands weave together in a design that allows for water flow rates and permittivity closer to nonwoven fabrics.


Monofilament fabrics are available by the roll and also used in filtration products. For example, permeable Floating Barriers has a 6 percent monofilament to permit water to flow through the silt curtain. Clarion Municipal's Storm Drain Filters use a 10 percent monofilament fabric to separate silt, sediment, and other debris from stormwater runoff.

Nonwoven Geotextile

Non woven geotextile are made entirely from rot-resistant, needle-punched staple fibers. With higher rates of permittivity and water flow than woven stabilization fabric, they are commonly used for filtration and permanent sediment control.


While used for many purposes, one of the most common applications for nonwoven geotextiles is filtration around drains. The filter fabric helps separate silt while still allowing water flow. This is particularly useful to a city's Transport Infrastructure department when designing and constructing the following:


  • Under Drains
  • French Drains
  • Subsurface Drains

Nonwoven geotextile fabrics are used to manufacture dewatering bags.
