For permanent sediment control, polypropylene geotextiles are an excellent solution. These Geotextile Rolls use high-strength fibers to offer slope stabilization, filtration, and sediment support under a variety of conditions. There are two types of geotextiles: woven and nonwoven. All geotextiles are available by the roll.
As the strongest geotextile, woven fabrics are commonly used as strong support and stabilization for rip rap, driveways, and any areas with increased pedestrian and Transport Infrastructure traffic. Woven geotextiles are categorized by their grab tensile strength (the breaking load). Common strengths include:
Nonwoven geotextiles provide the highest flow rates of any synthetic sediment control materials. While also used for stabilization, nonwoven fabrics are more often used for filtration and drainage. These types of geotextiles are categorized by their weight, measured as ounces per square yard.
Straw sediment control products are used for temporary stabilization on slopes, channels, and disturbed soils. All contain 100 percent biodegradable wheat straw. Depending on the application, support netting comes in either photodegradable or biodegradable options.
Straw blankets provide short-term support for sediment control on slopes. Single net blankets last up to one year and are best suited to low slope, low flow areas. Double net blankets bring additional strength to the job, lasting up to a year longer on steeper inclines.
Straw wattles offer filtration and sediment control benefits around drains, parks, and stormwater-prone areas, retaining sediment while still allowing clean water to flow. Straw wattle diameters range from 9 to 20 inches with lengths from 10 to 25 feet.
Jute matting is made from natural fibers and is 100 percent biodegradable. Jute matting fully decomposes so you don't need to remove it at the project's completion. Jute rolls are available in pallets of 6 or 9 rolls.
Jute erosion control matting is for projects with mild-to-medium slopes and low-to-moderate flow rates. Use jute matting for erosion control, slope stabilization, and sediment control for plants.
Coir products provide the widest variety of sediment control products. All are completely constructed from coconut fiber, making them 100 percent biodegradable. They are often used by Parks and Recreation departments for environmentally safe erosion management.
While similar in application to straw, coir blankets last longer (4 to 6 years) and can handle higher flow rates. Coir blankets have an open weave design for reseeding and vegetation planting before or after installation, allowing more versatility in the city's erosion and sediment control plan. Coir blanket models are separated by weave opening size and weight.
Our solid coir logs provide sediment and erosion control along hillsides, riverbanks, and shorelines, preventing existing contours from degrading further. Depending on area conditions, coir logs last from 2 to 5 years before completely biodegrading into the surrounding environment. Coir logs are available in 10 or 20 feet lengths with 9, 12, 16, or 20 inch diameters.
Less dense than coir logs, wattles operate best as perimeter controls and silt checks, providing filtration and keeping sediment in place. Similar to their straw counterparts, the main difference between the two is lifespan with coir lasting longer. Diameters range from 6 inches to 9 inches with lengths from 10 to 20 feet.
Coir blocks are the largest and most heavy-duty sediment control products available. Like coir logs, blocks are mainly used for shoreline and slope stabilization but can also work for stream relocation and soil lifts. Coir blocks last up to 5 years and provide substantial foundations for burgeoning vegetation.
